hayfieldhawks.com - Established 2000

The hayfieldhawks.com Web Site was originally the concept of Mr. Ray Maternick.  Mr. Maternick had a couple of sons which played sports at Hayfield. The idea was to have a web site which would  1) assist the Hayfield Booster Club and encourage participation and involvement by the community 2) provide the Hayfield community with a place on the Internet where former, current and future Hawks parents, alumni, fans, etc., could follow the high school's sports around the world and 3) to provide positive exposure to the school and its student athletes.  Although supportive of  Hayfield Secondary, it is an independent site not affiliated with Fairfax County or Hayfield Secondary. It is privately funded and maintained.  Juan Navas has administered the site since 2003.

In early 2000, the concept was introduced during a Booster Club meeting and vetted through the Athletic Director with the assistance of then head football coach Billy Pugh. The site made its debut midway through the football season of that year and has expanded since then to cover as many Hawks sports as possible.  The site served as an interim platform until an official school athletics/activities site (hawksathletics.org) was introduced.   Attempting to cover all the sports has been a dauting task but nonetheless, a very worthwhile and exciting experience.  Photos from the web site are free and higher resolution ones can be obtained by contacting Juan Navas at okfst74@verizon.net.

Juan Navas is a 21 year US Army veteran and is currently working towards his second retirement. His son attended and graduated from Hayfield Secondary in 1995.  He has been following Hayfield sports since his arrival in the area. The site features a link to the Hayfield Basketball Hall of Fame, yearly illustrated action of football, basketball (whenever possible for all levels for both sports) and a link to the the abbreviated history of Hayfield football.  Juan sincerely appreciates the great support and access provided over the years by previous and the current AD's office, coaches and staff members of the school. He is also very grateful to the followers of the page for their invaluable input.
